For Your Fascination

I made another mini-top hat fascinator this weekend. I haven't sewn one for a long time now so it kinda feels refreshing. I can't say which is more difficult to make: a headband or a top hat. I guess it's just the same, lol.

Black and White for Anne

I made this headband today for Anne. The previous headbands I made were kind of getting too similar (even though I didn't mean for them to) so I tried my best to put a little more variety this time.

Pushing Limits: A Weekend in the Mountains

I am actually dead tired and my muscles are sore but I can't bring myself to sleep yet.

Well, I just got back from an awesome field trip for PI 100 (The Life and Works of Jose Rizal). We went to Mt. Banahaw and I gained a lot of new experiences! As I said before, I'm not athletic at all but during this trip, I had to push my limits.

I was born and raised in the city and I don't really have probinsya/countryside experiences. For the first time, I got to bathe in a river and I really loved it even though it was very very cold. We also went hiking although it's not really a first time for me because I've gone to Taal already for my Geology 11 field trip. However, Taal is very easy compared to this one and the view was very beautiful (even though we didn't really go to the peak). It was also challenging and a bit scary because nightfall caught us while we were going down.

We also entered caves. It's not those huge caves we see in movies. They're very small that you have to be flexible and literally crawl your way out. I was actually scared of going inside the caves (I might not be able to get out because I'm lampa like that) but the trip won't be worth it if I didn't enter. Besides, almost everyone can do it, why can't I? In the end, I was able to do it and I am proud to say that I have pushed my limits.

At night, my classmate and I suddenly craved for something to drink before going to bed (because we saw a group of classmates carrying half a case of beer). In the end, our prof offered us beer so we had a small inuman (I only had a bottle) beside the road with our prof, a few classmates and some local guides. It felt very probinsya to me, I was grinning a lot even though I looked stupid. Haha.

We also went to the waterfalls and swam there. It was really awesome because it's my first time (and I've been wanting to try bathing in the waterfalls for some time now because I've only been to the sea). Water was very cold. I was shivering and my face felt like it was freezing but I still loved it. While my classmates were busy diving from a rock about 3.5 meters high from the water surface, I was scared to jump that high so I just swam with my prof to the falls and I had some back massage courtesy of the water pressure head.

In the end, I thought I might regret if I don't try jumping from the rock into the water. I swear, I was scared because I haven't done anything like that before and that was 3.5 meters. When I got to the rock, I jumped immediately. It was an awesome feeling. And I am happy that I was able to do it.

I have a few scratches (from crawling inside the caves) and sore muscles everywhere but with the new experiences, they're definitely worth it.

Red and Black

For some purpose, I had to compile pictures of headbands I made before so I asked my previous clients (Kat and Yuri) to take photos of them. Well, they posted the photos on Facebook and people (orgmates, to be specific) saw them. Now, suddenly, I have orders for headbands (thanks, Kat and Yuri!). It's a good thing I only have a 12-unit academic load this semester so I can still squeeze headband-making into my schedule despite having thesis. Besides, I really love making these so getting commissions would mean having an excuse to attend to my hobbies. This red and black one is for Reena. I'll strive to be more creative in my next headbands. :)

Maginhawa Friday Nights

I've been going to Maginhawa Street with friends a lot recently. Well, it's an awesome and unique place and it's just an Ikot ride (and a few minutes of walking) away from UP. There are different kinds of places, there's an awesome milk tea shop, a really nice coffee shop, a cute froyo place, a few inuman places, etc. The atmosphere is very UP and it fits a college student's budget.

I haven't been to a lot of food places there but my friends and I are planning to try them out. Yesterday, we (I, Airis, Ron, Jijo, Sean, Emil and Jun-C) were supposed to have dinner in Friuli but we got tired and hungry from waiting too long for seats so we ended up in Bistrio Cafe. I had beef with mushroom and it was awesome. They have cool chinaware and furniture too! After that, Cy and Kyle joined us and we went to Moonleaf (where I had my favorite lychee yakult). I swear, these Friday nights with AME friends are one of the best things in the world.

And just to share my most recent creation (click to enlarge):

It's a commissioned headband for Krinkle, which she gave to Lira for her birthday. I still have two to make: Krinkle's and Reena's. Yay for lacy headbands! Hopefully, I'll finish Krinkle's by Monday and Reena's by next week!
